Education and Training
Dr. James Gaffield received his medical education in the United States at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, earning an MD in 1994. He completed an internship and a residency in general surgery at Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, Pennsylvania, followed by an additional residency in plastic surgery at the prestigious Hershey Medical Center at Penn State University.
Dr. Gaffield honed his skills as a plastic surgeon in private practice in Philadelphia for two years before relocating to Queensland, Australia, where he worked for two years as a reconstructive and plastic surgeon at Bundaberg Base Hospital before opening the doors of his private practice, Pacific Plastic Surgery. He undergoes regular continuing education to meet the requirements set forth by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Medical Board of California for every plastic surgeon, and pursues additional training as needed to keep his Mackay and Bundaberg practices at the forefront of the field. Since 2004, Dr. Gaffield has served as a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland School of Medicine.
