Eyelid Surgery or Blepharoplasty – Bundaberg, Queensland

Signs of age, exhaustion, and stress around the eyes can be significantly reduced by our plastic surgeon in Queensland. Eyelid surgery can correct droopiness of the upper lids, eliminate puffiness, improve your field of vision and generally give the entire face a more youthful aesthetic. Dr. James Gaffield offers this effective enhancement option at Pacific Plastic Surgery.

Eyelid Surgery

Medically known as blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery is designed to remove signs of exhaustion, age, and stress that often begin to accumulate around the eyes before other areas of the face. Eyelid surgery can give patients a more youthful overall appearance by removing excess fat, skin, and muscle from the area and smoothing out the skin. It even works to improve vision in some patients by eliminating droopiness of the upper eyelids. Eyelid surgery can work wonders for most signs of aging around the eyes; however, it is not the ideal procedure to correct wrinkles and crow’s feet. Face lift, brow lift, and cosmetic injections can address those issues more effectively.

Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Depending on your cosmetic enhancement goals, blepharoplasty is performed on the upper eyelid areas, the lower lid areas, or both. The procedure is typically completed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia at the Friendly Society Private Hospital, and usually takes about one to three hours.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Upper eyelid surgery involves small incisions made along the upper lids and below the eyelashes of the lower lids. These incisions are discreetly made along the natural creases of the eyelids which leads to minimal scarring that’s virtually invisible. Dr. James Gaffield will remove excess skin, muscle, and fat and lift the remaining skin to give the area a smoother, more rejuvenated appearance. This procedure addresses signs of exhaustion and droopiness of the upper lids that can make vision more difficult.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Fat deposits and puffiness under the lower eyelids can be reduced with lower eyelid surgery. Through small, discreet incisions made under the lower eyelashes, Dr. Gaffield will eliminate extra skin, fat, and muscle and firm up the remaining skin for a smoother surface. This procedure can leave you looking rested, refreshed, and more youthful.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery

Dr. James Gaffield will lubricate the eyes with a special ointment immediately following the procedure. Some bruising and swelling around the eyes can be expected for a couple of weeks after eyelid surgery. Any discomfort or pain you may experience after the procedure can be managed with medication. Some patients encounter temporary double vision, light sensitivity, excessive tearing, and blurred vision after eyelid surgery. Most patients can expect to return to normal daily routines about 10 days after the procedure; however, you should not take on any strenuous activities that could raise your blood pressure until at least three weeks following surgery.
